Does anyone remember Final Fantasy 6?

I always liked these more than Materia.

I am thoroughly impressed with how close this design is to my own. Sounds like your execution is the same as mine as well. Its cool to think someone else had the same idea.

Oh wow, I did not know anyone else had tried this. I like how yours came out. And I see your design is a little more detailed than mine. I was essentially making a larger version of a rupee when I made my original. Overall probably the same method of creation, clear resin, small ball, and just the right application of dye.

I love FFVI and would love to try making something else from it. But there really are very few iconic items from that game. Given the graphic style Square used at the time.

I made an original in the crystal shape out of fimo. After baking it I then added mold silicone mold maker around it which made a perfect crystal shaped mold. Then it's just filling the silicone mold with clear slightly green resin and drop a red marble in when I finish.

how'd you get the fimo out of the mold?

:iconnatfoe:
Natfoe Featured By Owner Aug 25, 2010  Student
Silicone when dry will not stick to anything. The fimo original just comes out easily. That's why it makes a great medium, for mold making.

where'd you find the silicone?

Hobby Lobby, They sell Allumilite Quick set and High Strength silicone mold maker and several different types of resins. Along with clear and opaque dyes to color them.

Thanks, between materia, magicite and the crystals of the previous sequels I cannot think of too many more crystals. I have been trying to think of other things from FF6 to make myself.

In some of the original Yoshitaka Amano concept art, characters typically have lots of little pieces of jewelry. You could try looking at that for some FFVI inspiration. Maybe you could come up with your own idea of what gil looks like too?

I do think you would be fantastic at making materia and various other FF icons, weapons, etc. You could give swords like Masamune, Excalibur, Ragnarok, etc a shot as they typically show up in all FF games, including VI. I know I am very tempted to grab my wallet and ask "How much for one of these?" lol

Do I remember FF6? Boy, do I! One of my all time favorite games! Terra is one of my top ten favorite gaming characters.

But that's not really how I imagined Magicite looked like when I played the game... I always thought they were rounded around the edges, more like and egg... or maybe a stretched pokemon ball. Don't know how they made them look in the newer CG game though... I'm an old school gamer.

Still, those look pretty awesome regardless. Congrats!

They were never all that well defined. The artwork made them out to be green rocks with a red spot. And Final fantasy XII they were clear crystals with a colored ball in the center.

So I combined the designs with what I could put together from the FFVI sprites. I used to think they were more like a pill or river rock.

:wow: Wow ! real Magicite ! how can i make some for myself ?it would be useful in my Terra cosplay project .

i really like FF6. it's one of the best final fantasy episodes ever !
I still have a bit a difficult to understant what's everyone finds legendary in FF7. Sure the 7th was great i had great time playing it thanks the playstation network ! But i didn't feel like it's the greatest ever (and Kefka is much WAY psycho and evil than Sephiroth)
